Robot Facilitation as Dynamic Support for Collaborative Learning
نویسندگان
چکیده
Automated as well as remotely controlled robots have high potential to expand our research and practice in collaborative learning environments. The area of computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) is one in which advanced technologies have been used effectively to automatically monitor and dynamically structure group discussions for learning. Traditional desktop environments for collaborative learning have included interactions between groups and computer agents with conversational abilities. Robots can take the collaboration out of the computer and into the three dimensional, real world environments of students. This symposium raises the important question of how advanced technologies, such as robotics, may enable us to take the same insights from the area of scripted collaboration and use them to support groups of learners in these environments. Other topic areas include design choices in robotic features that may influence scripted interactions, social behavior, meaningful engagement, and conditions that dynamically support situational factors and generate collaborative learning among students.

Dynamic Obstacle Avoidance by Distributed Algorithm based on Reinforcement Learning (RESEARCH NOTE)
In this paper we focus on the application of reinforcement learning to obstacle avoidance in dynamic Environments in wireless sensor networks. A distributed algorithm based on reinforcement learning is developed for sensor networks to guide mobile robot through the dynamic obstacles. The sensor network models the danger of the area under coverage as obstacles, and has the property of adoption o...
متن کاملEnergy Dissipation Rate Control Via a Semi-Analytical Pattern Generation Approach for Planar Three-Legged Galloping Robot based on the Property of Passive Dynamic Walking
In this paper an Energy Dissipation Rate Control (EDRC) method is introduced, which could provide stable walking or running gaits for legged robots. This method is realized by developing a semi-analytical pattern generation approach for a robot during each Single Support Phase (SSP). As yet, several control methods based on passive dynamic walking have been proposed by researchers to provide an...
متن کاملIntensification of Group Knowledge Exchange with Academically Productive Talk Agents
In recent years, intelligent conversational agents have been used with some level of effectiveness as dynamic support for collaborative learning in online chat. The classroom discourse community offers insights from analysis of effective classroom discussion facilitation practices that might productively inspire the design of such facilitator agents. In this paper, we evaluate one such conversa...
متن کاملThe Effects of Process and Content Facilitation Restrictiveness on GSS-Mediated Collaborative Learning
Group Support Systems (GSS) technology, extensively applied in decision-making contexts, is now seeing increased application in the educational sector. Previous work has suggested that GSS applications can have significant positive effects on both the process and the outcome of collaborative learning. This study extends this work to examine the effects of process (high/low) and content (high/lo...
متن کاملProcess and Content Structuring in Collaborative Learning
1. INTRODUCTION Group Support Systems (GSS) technology, which has been developed over the course of the last dozen years, has been initially researched in laboratory-based experiments. More recently, fieldwork has examined how GSS function in real world environments involving businessmen, diplomats, soldiers and students. GSS were originally designed to support discussion and decision making in...
